About tova katz
Tova Katz is a writer, composer, musician, and performer now based in LA after 7 gritty & glorious years in NYC. She obtained her BA in Art & Power: Art and Social Change, with a Minor in Theater, Dance, & Performance Studies at UC Berkeley. Since premiering at La Mama in 2016, her original dark solo musical comedy See You at the Funeral! - with original direction by the incredible Tricia Brouk - has been an Official Selection of NYC's The ONE Theatre Festival and the Fresh Fruit Festival at The Wild Project in 2017, for which she received a Fruitie Award for Outstanding Solo Performance in a Musical or Cabaret in 2018. She is a founding member of the independent queer performance collective A Beautiful Desperation, and has been creating work with ABD since 2014. Tova has choreographed and performed experimental tap dance as percussion to live music, been featured as vocalist at Joe’s Pub, a dancing zombie Off Broadway, appeared in a couple TV series, enjoyed performing as lyricist, composer, pianist, guitarist, lead vocalist of her band Glittered & Mauled across NYC from 2011-2016, and in 2017 released her first solo single Not That Much. Tova is a 2018 Inquiry Fellow through the Institute for Jewish Creativity (IJC) and a 2019 Asylum Arts/IJC Reciprocity artist. In the spring of 2019, she performed in Queer Cabaret with The Commons LA. She is currently in the thick of writing her next play and working on her cabaret-inspired murderous heart-pop album.
